Weekend slate features nationally-ranked showdown between No. 9 IMG Academy and No. 11 Cocoa.

A matchup of nationally-ranked programs Friday headlines this week's high school football slate in Florida as No. 9 IMG Academy (Bradenton) hosts No. 11 Cocoa.

IMG Academy was able to bounce back from a stunning season-opening loss with a 27-14 victory over No. 23 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) last week. Senior SMU commit Ty Hawkins racked up nearly 300 yards of total offense with four touchdowns.

Cocoa has yet to be challenged this season with a pair of blowout victories. Junior Michigan commit Brady Hart has completed 33 of 48 passes for 601 yards and seven touchdowns while senior UCF pledge Jayvan Boggs has 15 receptions for 333 yards and five scores.

The Tigers are the back-to-back 2S state champions and have outscored their first two opponents 93-10.

After beginning the season ranked No. 9 in the nation, three-time defending state champion Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) lost its first two games of the year to fall out of the national rankings. The Lions look to get back on track this week when they host No. 14 American Heritage (Plantation) in a critical game for both teams.

American Heritage is 1-1 to start the season behind junior Texas commit Dia Bell, who has completed 31 of 49 passes for 489 yards and seven touchdowns.

The other game to watch involving a nationally-ranked team this week is a contest between St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) and Columbus (Miami). St. Thomas Aquinas bounced back from an opening-week loss to No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) with a 51-0 victory over Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes) last week. The Raiders look to continue their momentum when they host a quality Explorers squad on Friday.
