Centralia took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Highland, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Orphans skirted past the Bulldogs 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Orphans.
Dax Snow made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Snow was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Gabe Houser was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Rhett Lambert, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Centralia now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-22.
Coming up, Centralia is taking a road trip to challenge Effingham at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Flaming Hearts' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Orphans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Highland, they will host Mt. Vernon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
