Vandegrift upsets No. 16 Katy, DeSoto takes down No. 10 Denton Guyer in Texas 6A Division 2 semifinals.

No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) had one game left on the schedule to solidify its spot as the top-ranked team in the country and they shutout Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) 45-0.  It was the first loss of the season for the Padres as they fall to 13-1. The Braves defense forced five turnovers and they dominated from start to finish. It was St. John Bosco's fourth CIF Open Division state championship since 2013.

One of the biggest games of the year took place on Saturday between No. 8 North Shore (Houston) and No. 9 Westlake (Austin) in the Texas 6A Division 1 semifinals. The Mustangs snapped the Chaparrals 54-game win streak with a 49-34 win. The defending 6A Division 1 state champs are back in the championship game for the fourth time in five years. They will face No. 12 Duncanville on Dec. 17 at AT&T Stadium. The Panthers beat Prosper 41-0 in the other 6A Division 1 semifinal.

This will be the fourth time in five years these two Texas powers lock horns in the 6A Division 1 state championship. North Shore has won the three previous meetings including a 17-10 win in last year's state title game.

DeSoto (Texas) went into its 6A Division 2 state semifinal matchup against No. 10 Guyer (Denton) with an 0-2 record against MaxPreps Top 25 opponents. The Eagles made sure they weren't going to fall to 0-3 against nationally ranked teams. They handed the Wildcats their first loss of the season with a dominant 47-28 win to advance to the 6A Division 2 state championship. The Eagles accounted for 560 total yards of offense with 437 coming on the ground. Sophomore running back Deondrae Riden Jr. led the way with 224 yards and two touchdowns.

Vandegrift (Austin) took down No. 16 Katy 38-35 in the other 6A Division 2 semifinal matchup. Hayden Arnold nailed a 38-yard field goal with no time left on the clock to send the Vipers to their first state title game. In the loss, Katy's Seth Davis broke Rodney Anderson's school record for most career rushing yards and finished his last game with over 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

No. 18 Mill Creek (Hoschton) won its first state title beating No. 20 Carrollton 70-35 in the Georgia AAAAAAA state championship. The Hawks set a new state championship record scoring 70 points. Five-star Alabama commit Caleb Downs added three rushing scores. Star freshman quarterback Julian Lewis became the first quarterback in state championship game history to throw for more than 500 yards in the loss. He finished with 531 yards and five touchdowns.

Another MaxPreps Top 25 matchup went down in the Arizona Open Division state championship as No. 21 Basha (Chandler) beat No. 24 Saguaro (Scottsdale) 28-21 to win its first state title.

The Lions are eligible to play in the ESPN GEICO Bowl Series on Dec. 17 and there is a good chance it will be against No. 4 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).

The Panthers handed Gainesville its first loss of the season in the Georgia AAAAAA state championship on Friday with a 35-28 victory. It was Langston Hughes first state title in program history.
