Baseball Recap: Westlake Starts Season with Win Against Northgate

Westlake had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Northgate Vikings by a score of 7-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Joe Williams looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grant Bartell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Myles Thomas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Westlake Lions take on the Langston Hughes Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Northgate has already played their next game (against South Paulding), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
