Florida high school football: Sabby Meassick, J.P. Pickles top state passing yardage leaders

Tohopekaliga freshman signal caller paces the state after throwing for 1,623 yards in four games.

With the high school football regular season nearing the end in Florida, we are highlighting the state's passing yardage leaders. Nine quarterbacks in the Sunshine State have thrown for at least 2,000 yards.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Sabby Meassick of Tohopekaliga (Kissimmee) leads the state with 2,600 passing yards. The freshman had a four-game stretch from Sept. 10 to Oct. 7 where he threw for 1,623 yards and 26 touchdowns as the Tigers won each contest. On the season, Meassick has 35 touchdowns.

J.P. Pickles of North Florida Christian (Tallahassee) is second in the state with 2,320 passing yards. The junior is coming off a 308-yard game for the 9-0 Eagles. Pickles has picked up another 414 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Michael Grant of Maclay (Tallahassee) is leading all Florida seniors with 2,170 passing yards. Grant is coming off a 235-yard, five-touchdown passing performance in a 52-12 win.
