Baseball Recap: Mattoon Comes Up Short

Mattoon suffered their biggest defeat since May 1st on Thursday. They came up short against the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, falling 18-2. The loss continues a trend for the Greenwave in their meetings with the Wooden Shoes: they've now lost three in a row.

Mattoon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fletcher Gregory, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Mattoon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-22. As for Teutopolis, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-8.

Coming up, Mattoon will venture away from home to square off against St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Greenwave's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Teutopolis, they will take on Father McGivney Catholic in a tournament on Friday. The Wooden Shoes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Griffins have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
