Basketball Recap: Elk Grove Takes a Loss

Elk Grove saw some tournament action on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 58-12 loss at the hands of the El Capitan Gauchos. The contest marked the Thundering Herd's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Elk Grove saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mackenzie McEntee posted three points and five steals. McEntee is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last three games she's played.

El Capitan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alexis Valenzuela led the charge by putting up 15 points and five steals. Madysen Dietz was another key player, earning 11 points and eight steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Elk Grove and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for El Capitan, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Elk Grove wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-10 victory against Chavez on the 5th. As for El Capitan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-18 win against Venture Academy on the 5th.
