Football Recap: Kirtland Central Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Kirtland Central extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Espanola Valley Sundevils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Broncos of the 31-15 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Kirtland Central still got an impressive performance from Chance Aspaas, who rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, and also threw for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kayben Dowdy was Aspaas' top target, picking up 35 receiving yards, while also rushing for 48 yards and one score.

As for Espanola Valley, the victory got them back to even at 4-4. Considering their offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Isaiah Gallegos had an outrageously good game as he threw for 375 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt. 81 of those passing yards were hauled in by Michael Maestas.

Kirtland Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 40-0 defeat against Taos on the 17th. As for Espanola Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bloomfield at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Sundevils will need to watch out since the Bobcats have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
