Softball Recap: Troup County Comes Up Short

Troup County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Fayette County, falling 9-3. Troup County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fayette County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Kaitlyn Smalley put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Zoe Graham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Troup County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Fayette County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Looking ahead, Troup County will be playing in front of their home fans against Northside at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fayette County, they will square off against Spalding at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
