Baseball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They lost 10-1 to the Westlake Lions. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Chris Guillory made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

Newton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. Westlake's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.

Looking ahead, Newton will host Rockdale County at 5:55 p.m. on Monday. Rockdale County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.86 runs per game on average), something Newton will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Westlake, they will square off against East Coweta at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Coweta knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Westlake likes a good challenge.
