California high school football passing leaders: Alexander Lundsberg of Canyon tops the list

Comanches senior has 1,486 yards for season after throwing for 461 in 49-42 loss on Friday.

There was no shortage of big quarterback performances in Week 4 across California.

Senior Alexander Lundsberg of Canyon (Anaheim) added to his state-leading total with 461 yards on 26 of 37 passing with three touchdowns in a 49-42 loss to Sunny Hills (Fullerton). Lundsberg leads all California quarterbacks with 1,486 yards, according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

The biggest performance of the week was from Jonathan Huizar of Delano, who led the Tigers to a 50-29 win over Foothill (Bakersfield). The junior was 18 of 27 for 473 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions as Delano moved to 3-0.

Michael Wynn of St. Genevieve (Panorama City) completed 25 of 31 passes for 462 yards and five TDs in a 42-8 win over La Salle (Pasadena) to help the Valiants move to 3-0.

Junior Evan Vessey of Monte Vista Christian (Watsonville) passed for 433 yards and a score on 24 for 37 throwing in a 40-37 win over Carlmont (Belmont).

Three-star Sacramento State commit Jaden Jefferson of Cathedral (Los Angeles) put up 412 yards on 25 of 35 passes with five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 56-54 loss to Simi Valley.

Following Lundsberg, the top passers on the MaxPreps leaderboards are three-star junior Taylor Lee of Pacifica (Oxnard) with 1,356 yards and 22 touchdowns, junior Julian Perez of Lincoln (Stockton) with 1,352 and 12 TDs, senior Sands Dougherty of Morro Bay with 1,335 and 14 touchdowns and senior Mikey Pino of The Webb Schools (Claremont) with 1,289 and 14 TDs.
