Basketball Recap: El Capitan Piles Up the Points Against Elk Grove

El Capitan saw some tournament action on Thursday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 58-12 victory over the Elk Grove Thundering Herd. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Gauchos' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 234th).

El Capitan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexis Valenzuela out in front who posted 15 points and five steals. Madysen Dietz was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight steals.

Despite the defeat, Elk Grove saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mackenzie McEntee put up three points and five steals. McEntee has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played.

The victory got El Capitan back to even at 1-1. As for Elk Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

El Capitan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-18 win against Venture Academy on the 5th. As for Elk Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-10 victory against Chavez on the 5th.
