Volleyball Recap: Columbia City's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

If Columbia City was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Whitko last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garrett Railroaders on Tuesday. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Railroaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Columbia City started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 28-26, 25-13, 25-18.

Garrett found their leader in freshman Kaylee Gaar, who had 25 digs and five assists. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Gaar.

The defeat snapped Columbia City's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Garrett, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

Coming up, Columbia City will welcome Fort Wayne South Side at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Garrett, they are taking a road trip to take on East Noble at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more sets each contest than the last.
