By Zack Poff Sep 18, 2024, 11:00am

Top teams in Ohio square off as Massillon looks to beat St. Edward for the third straight year.

The only head-to-head MaxPreps Top 25 matchup this week features No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) hosting No. 24 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) on Friday.

St. Frances Academy has lost two in a row on the road at No. 17 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) and No. 4 Duncanville (Texas)

Mater Dei improved to 3-0 last week with a 38-7 win at Kahuku (Hawaii), extending its win streak against out-of-state opponents to 18 straight dating back to 2017.

This will be the third meeting in the last six years between the programs with Mater Dei winning the previous two. Bryce Young led the Monarchs to a 34-18 in 2019 and last year the defense scored two touchdowns in a 20-7 win.

A huge showdown between the top two teams in Ohio takes place on Friday as Massillon (Ohio) looks to beat St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) for the third straight year. The winner of this game has a shot to re-join the MaxPreps Top 25 next week.

Coming off a comeback win over Northwestern (Miami), Norland (Miami) looks to improve to 4-0 against a Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) team that has won two in a row after an 0-2 start.

No. 10 Mission Viejo (Calif.) looks to add another quality win against an undefeated Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) squad. The Diablos have outscored their first four opponents 185-20.
