Elgin hasn't had much luck against West Chicago recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Maroons will face off against the Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Elgin turned things around against St. Edward on Friday. They blew past the Green Wave 13-5. The Maroons not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 8th (when they won 18-0).
Ivan Magdaleno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julian Jacobo was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but West Chicago ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Larkin 4-3.
West Chicago saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Bell, who went 3-for-5 with one double.
Elgin's record is now 8-18. As for West Chicago, their record now sits at 10-15-1.
Elgin suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to West Chicago in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
