Massillon Washington takes down No. 10 St. Edward for second consecutive year.

The biggest upset of the 2023 high school football season took place in the Aloha State as Kahuku (Hawaii) stunned No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) with a 30-23 win. The Braves erased a 22-3 deficit and took a 23-22 lead with just over eight minutes remaining.

The Red Raiders had one last drive and capitalized on a couple of penalties setting up the game-winning touchdown run from senior quarterback Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa with 23 seconds left.

Kahuku snapped the Braves out-of-state winning streak at 18. The Red Raiders are now 5-1 and expect them to make a big jump in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings on Monday.

Washington (Massillon, Ohio) snapped No. 10 St. Edward's (Lakewood, Ohio) 15-game win streak with a 15-13 victory at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. It was the first time in 23 years the Tigers beat the Eagles in back-to-back seasons. Three-star senior quarterback Daone Owens led the way on the ground as they rushed for nearly 250 yards as a team.

The back-to-back Division 1 state champs jumped out to a 6-0 lead but Massillon Washington responded by scoring the next 15 points. Thomas Csanyi got the start at quarterback for the Eagles as they were without Casey Bullock who got hurt in the fourth quarter against Elder (Cincinnati). Csanyi threw a late touchdown to Brian Sullivan with just over a minute left to cut the deficit to 15-13 but the Tigers jumped on the onside kick to ice the game.

Since 2022, St. Edward has gone 19-2 with both losses coming against the Tigers. Expect to see Washington jump in the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings on Monday.

No. 6 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) beat No. 15 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) 28-16 in the biggest game of the week. Five-star Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith had two touchdown receptions giving him seven on the year. The Lions improved to 4-0 and play at No. 5 Central (Miami) next Thursday on ESPN2. The Rockets were leading Carol City (Miami) 14-0 in the first quarter on Saturday before the game was called because of weather. The game will be rescheduled at a later date to finish.

No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) beat Glenville (Ohio) 28-6 to extend its win streak to 12. The Ascenders are 4-0 this season and are idle the next two weeks. Their next game is on Oct. 6 at Bartram Trail (St. Johns, Fla.).

Isaac Wilson continued his great play with another stellar performance in a 56-14 win for No. 19 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) over a previously undefeated Mountain Ridge (Herriman, Utah) squad. The four-star quarterback completed 22 of 28 passes for 370 yards and accounted for six total touchdowns. He did that all in the first half as the Chargers were up 49-7 after 24 minutes. The 2024 Utah commit currently leads the nation in passing with 2,260 yards.

The top-rated quarterbacks in the Class of 2025 and Class of 2026 both had perfect nights.

Bryce Underwood completed 15 of 15 passes for nearly 300 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns in a 53-0 win for No. 22 Belleville (Mich.) over Dearborn (Mich.). Underwood is the No. 1 player overall among juniors on 247Sports composite rankings. He has been named the MaxPreps Freshman of the Year and Sophomore of the Year the last two seasons.

Julian Lewis led No. 17 Carrollton (Ga.) to a 47-14 win against Jenkins (Savannah, Ga.). The 2026 USC commit completed all eight passes for 137 yards and three scores. He was named the MaxPreps Freshman of the Year last season and is the No. 1 player overall among sophomores on every recruiting site that does rankings for the Class of 2026.

No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) was one of three MaxPreps Top 25 teams that played on Thursday. The Gaels rolled past  Liberty (Henderson) 49-6 in a matchup of the top-two teams in Nevada. The Las Vegas power improved to 5-0 and have won 18 games in a row since a 24-21 loss against Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) last season.

No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and No. 25 Norland (Miami) also won on Thursday. The Raiders beat Western (Davie, Fla.) 48-22. The Vikings improved to 4-0 with a 42-7 win over Monsignor Pace (Miami).
