Football Recap: Jal Takes a Loss

Jal extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-7. They took a blow against the Eunice Cardinals, falling 62-13. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.

Daniel Ornelas threw for 119 yards on eight of 14 attempts. Davian Navarrete was his top target, picking up 48 receiving yards. On the ground, David Gaytan rushed for 64 yards.

As for Eunice, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2. Considering they have won six games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Elijah Melancon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 366 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 89.3% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Those seven passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Jal will take on Navajo Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 14.4 points per game this season, so the Panthers' offense will have their work cut out for them. Eunice does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
