Baseball Game Preview: Leyden Eagles vs. Proviso West Panthers

The Leyden Eagles will square off against the Proviso West Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Leyden will be strutting in after a win while Proviso West will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with 13 losses in a row, Leyden turned things around against Glenbard West on Saturday. They came out on top against the Hilltoppers by a score of 3-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Not much got past Angel Gutierrez, who gave up just two hits to keep Glenbard West off the board.

At the plate, Luis Zapata was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chris Stephens, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, Proviso West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 25th straight defeat. They lost 20-2 to Hinsdale Central.

Proviso West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Fuentes, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Leyden's victory bumped their record up to 9-23. As for Proviso West, their loss dropped their record down to 2-27.

Everything went Leyden's way against Proviso West in their previous matchup back in April, as Leyden made off with an 11-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
