Baseball Recap: West Chicago Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

West Chicago had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against the Elgin Maroons by a score of 10-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-4 back in April.

Anderson Campbell looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, West Chicago let Ryan Bell and Liam Zbierski run wild. Bell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Zbierski got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Zbierski is becoming a predictor of West Chicago's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 10-14-1 when he doesn't).

West Chicago's win bumped their record up to 12-15-1. As for Elgin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.

West Chicago will square off against IC Catholic Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elgin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fenton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
