Baseball Recap: Washington-Wilkes Comes Up Short

Washington-Wilkes extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping them down to 10-16. They came up short against the Burke County Bears, falling 10-0. Considering the last time the Tigers couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Burke County, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-10. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Burke County's part, the result came thanks to Jayden Caamal's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. Caamal also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Bears are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Asher Price was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Cadle, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Burke County beat Washington-Wilkes by a score of 11-4 later that day.
