Top-ranked Trojans seeking fourth straight state championship.

The 2023 high school football season in Indiana kicks off later this month and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Three-time defending state champion Center Grove (Greenwood) owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.

After back-to-back state championship seasons in 2020 and 2021, Center Grove overcame a bit more adversity in 2022. The Trojans lost twice in the regular season, including a 40-29 setback against Cathedral (Indianapolis) in October. Head coach Eric Moore's squad turned the tables in a state semifinal rematch, winning 33-10.

Duke commitment Tyler Cherry is back under center for Center Grove after throwing for 2,269 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior.

In addition to Center Grove in Class 6A, other defending state champions include Valparaiso in Class 5A, East Central (St. Leon) in Class 4A, Bishop Chatard (Indianapolis) in Class 3A Evansville Mater Dei in Class 2A and Indianapolis Lutheran in Class 1A.

Rankings are computer-generated, factoring in past results and adjustments such as returners and statistical data when available.
