Baseball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem managed to slip by Mattoon the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats lost 12-5 to the Greenwave on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Aaden Rostance put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rostance was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Rostance wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Butts, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Owen Tennyson was another, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Salem has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-23 record this season. As for Mattoon, their record now sits at 6-21.

Looking ahead, Salem will be playing at home against Wesclin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Mattoon, they will head out to take on Decatur Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
