Florida high school football: Top 25 scoreboard

Chaminade-Madonna hosts Norland, Cocoa travels to Venice and American Heritage faces Central in loaded weekend of games.

This week's high school football schedule in Florida is loaded with marquee matchups, headlined by six games between teams ranked in the top 25 of the MaxPreps computer rankings.

The most intriguing matchups on the slate include No. 5 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) hosting No. 11 Norland (Miami), No. 3 Cocoa traveling to No. 7 Venice and No. 6 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) heading to No. 8 Central (Miami, Fla.).

Senior Preston Wright has been stellar since taking over under center for Chaminade-Madonna, throwing for 690 yards and eight touchdowns in two starts. He has led the Lions to back-to-back wins and threw for 487 yards and four touchdowns in a signature 48-45 win over American Heritage. Norland has been good on both sides of the ball as the unbeaten squad faces another stiff test following a 21-17 victory against Northwestern (Miami).

Central has won three in a row since a season-opening loss against No. 4 Lakeland, outscoring its last three opponents 176-32. American Heritage bounced back with a 23-3 win over Naples last week after a loss to Chaminade-Madonna. Top 25 Texas commit Dia Bell enters Friday's matchup with 1,075 yards passing and 13 touchdowns. His favorite target has been four-star Miami commit Malachi Toney, who has 25 catches for 417 yards and seven scores. This is the fourth meeting between the South Florida powers since 2013 and Central has won all three of the previous matchups.

Cocoa's only loss came at No. 1 IMG Academy (Bradenton) and the Tigers bounced back last week with a 39-13 win over Heritage (Palm Bay). Four-star Michigan pledge Brady Hart has thrown for 1,197 yards and 11 touchdowns, hooking up with his favorite target four-star UCF commit Jayvan Boggs for 28 receptions for 595 yards and seven scores. Venice has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, averaging 57.7 points per game.



Other top 25 matchups to watch include No. 22 Columbus (Miami) at No. 24 Northwestern, No. 23 Mandarin (Jacksonville) at No. 1 IMG Academy and No. 21 Nease (Ponte Vedra) at No. 20 St. Augustine.
