Elk Grove has gone a perfect 7-0 against Hoffman Estates recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Grenadiers will take on the Hawks at 11:00 a.m. Elk Grove is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Elk Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Geneva, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Grenadiers fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Grenadiers have suffered since April 24th.
Cooper Casterton was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Hoffman Estates hadn't done well against Conant recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Hawks walked away with a 10-7 win over the Cougars. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
The team relied heavily on Vinny Luzwick, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Luis Tobella was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Elk Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 7-24. As for Hoffman Estates, their victory bumped their record up to 9-22.
Elk Grove's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Grenadiers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hoffman Estates, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Elk Grove continue to outrun the ball?
