Brighton dropped down to 9-6 on Saturday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westminster Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on September 2nd.

Laikyn Lanzen put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Lanzen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

Lanzen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madeline Umsted, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Westminster, the win got them back to even at 8-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Westminster's side, Elizabeth Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits. Flores has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaleesa Talmich Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Castillo Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Brighton is taking a road trip to face off against Rangeview at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Westminster, they have already played their next match, a 14-2 loss against Forge Christian on the 22nd.
