High school basketball: Tournaments, showcases and events to watch for the 2022-23 season

High school hoops going international this winter with events in London, Bahamas among highlights of schedule.

The high school basketball season gets officially underway with Texas and Georgia tipping off this weekend and California beginning its season Monday next week. November features 16 of the top tournament and events of the high school basketball season with approximately 80 more to follow from December through March.

The City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., and Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., continue to carry the flag as the premier events of the high school basketball season, while many others around the nation provide a look at elite talent for high school hoops fans.

Below is a guide to over 90 of the top events from coast to coast scheduled for the coming months.

17-19 — McDonald's Texas Invitational (Pasadena, Calif.)
Forty-eight of the top programs in the Lone Star State compete across six different brackets for early-season bragging rights.

18-19 — George Lynch Invitational (Charlotte, N.C.)

18-20 — All the Smoke Classic (Phoenix, Ariz.)
Grind Session event.

19 — Hawks-Naismith Tip-Off Classic (Atlanta, Ga.)
Showdown between top 50 opponents Grovetown (Ga.) and McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) highlights the event.

19, 21-22 — Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic (Suwanee, Ga.)

22-23 — Frank Jackson National Hoopfest (Pleasant Grove, Utah)
National Top 10 matchups of AZ Compass Prep (Chandler, Ariz.) vs. Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) and Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) against AZ Compass Prep are the headliners.

22-26 — Kevin Brown Memorial Tournament of Champions (Washington, Ill.)
Teams from Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Texas and Wisconsin will be represented. Carmel (Ind.), Joliet West (Joliet, Ill.), Pewaukee (Wis.), St. Rita (Chicago) and Winter Haven (Fla.) are among headliners.



25-26 — Hard in the Paint Classic (Atlanta, Ga.)
A matchup between Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 Peach State teams Grovetown and Newton (Covington) headlines the event.

25-26 — Hoops and Dreams Showcase (Fayetteville, N.C.)
A number of intriguing teams from North Carolina will participate including Quality Education, Seaforth (Pittsboro), The Burlington School, Westover (Fayetteville) and Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh).

25-26 — Lighthouse Classic (Corinth, Miss.)

25-26 — Holiday Hoopsgiving (Atlanta, Ga.)
Teams featured in the National Top 10 or Preseason Top 100 include Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Carmel Christian, Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), Greenforest, Grovetown, Kell (Marietta, Ga.), McEachern, Pebblebrook (Mableton, Ga.), Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.), Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) and Wheeler.

25-26 — Thanksgiving Hoopfest (Duncanville, Texas)

26 — All-Ohio Hoops Showcase (Columbus, Ohio)
Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 team Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio) is the top-ranked participant in the early season event.

26 — NorCal Tip-Off Classic (Dublin, Calif.)
15th annual event features a top 50 showdown between Modesto Christian (Modesto, Calif.) and Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) in the nightcap.



28-Dec. 3 — Ryse Williams Pac Shores Tournament (Redondo Beach, Calif.)
Field has yet to be announced for the 70th annual tournament field.

December

1-3 — Air Capital Hoopfest (Wichita, Kan.)
AZ Compass Prep, Bishop Walsh (Cumberland, Md.), Legacy Early College (Greenville, S.C.), Oak Hill Academy, Sunrise Christian Academy and Wasatch Academy are the teams participating in the NIBC event.

1-3 — Battle at the Rock Showcase (Rock Hill, S.C.)
Field to be announced soon.

1-3 — Marshall County Hoopfest (Benton, Ky.)
Top participating teams include Calvary Christian Academy, Christian Academy-Louisville (Louisville, Ky.), Combine Academy, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Link Academy and Male (Louisville, Ky.).

1-3 — Sleepy Thompson Tournament (Alexandria, Va.)
66th annual tournament field is headlined by preseason top 10 program Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.).

1-3 — Sunshine Classic (Montverde, Fla.)
A showdown between top five programs in the National Top 10 is the headliner for the NIBC event as top-ranked Montverde Academy takes on its rival IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.).



2-3 — Darius Miles Blood, Sweat & Tears Showcase (St. Louis, Mo.)

3 — All City Classic Showcase (Philadelphia, Pa.)
A showdown between preseason top 50 programs Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia) and St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) headlines the event.

3 — Sneakers for Santa (Brownsburg, Ind.)
Cathedral (Indianapolis, Ind.) vs. Centerville (Ohio) is a highly-anticipated early season matchup, while Kokomo (Ind.) versus Ben Davis (Indianapolis) is another contest to watch.

3 — Tournament of Champions Classic (Marietta, Ga.)
Headlining contests include Wheeler vs. Kimball, Kell vs. McEachern and Pebblebrook vs. Tri-Cities (East Point, Ga.).

2-4 — Chicago Elite Classic (Chicago, Ill.)
Early-season games with national ranking implications include Vashon (St. Louis, Mo.) vs. Kenwood (Chicago, Ill.), Vashon vs. Curie (Chicago, Ill.), Simeon (Chicago, Ill.) vs. St. Rita (Chicago, Ill.) and Gonzaga vs. Saint Ignatius (Chicago, Ill.).



8-10 — Bob Kirk Invitational Showcase (Cumberland, Md.)
NIBC event features matchups of Montverde Academy vs. Oak Hill Academy and Sunrise Christian Academy vs. La Lumiere.

8-10 — Hoophall West (Phoenix, Ariz.)
AZ Compass Prep, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), Cardinal Hayes, Centennial, Coronado (Henderson, Nev.), Duncanville, Gray Collegiate Academy (West Columbia, S.C.), IMG Academy, Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.), Notre Dame, Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.), Simeon, San Ysidro (San Diego, Calif.) and Wasatch Academy are among the top teams participating in the loaded event.

9-10 — Battle in the Peach (Marietta, Ga.)
A top 10 showdown between Columbus and Wheeler headlines the event.

9-10 — Utah Holiday Hoopfest (Salt Lake City, Utah)
American Fork (Utah), Beaumont United (Beaumont, Texas), Duncanville, Durango, Notre Dame, Oak Cliff Faith Family, Pebblebrook, Pleasant Grove (Utah), Real Salt Lake Academy (Herriman, Utah) and Vashon are among teams to watch in Salt Lake City.

9-11 — Gonzaga DC Classic (Washington, D.C.)

10 — Forum Tip-Off Classic (Southport, Ind.)
Ben Davis vs. Cathedral, Zionsville vs. Penn (Mishawaka) and Bloomington North (Bloomington) vs. Fishers give fans an early glimpse of top Hoosier State talent.



10-11 — National Hoopfest (Hyattsville, Md.)
WCAC powers DeMatha and St. Paul VI are among the headliners in the to be announced field.

11 — Kentucky Play-By-Play Classic
Local power North Laurel (London, Ky.) takes on top five nationally-ranked Imhotep Charter in the top game of the event.

15-17 — Hoophall South (Bentonville, Ark.)
AZ Compass Prep, Coronado, Harvard-Westlake, Moravian Prep, Simeon and Whitney Young are among the participants.

15-17 — Norm Stewart Classic (Columbia, Mo.)
This unique event gives us an early look at Missouri contenders with 48 consecutive hours of basketball over the course of this special three-day event.

15-17 — The Bash (Columbia, S.C.)
Field has yet to be announced.

16-17 — Hoopfest in Paradise (Bahamas)
Duncanville, Oak Ridge (Orlando, Fla.), Roselle Catholic and Sunrise Christian Academy compete in the four-team event.

16-17 — Memphis vs. The World (Eads, Tenn.)
Grind Session event.



16-20 — King of the Bluegrass (Fairdale, Ky.)
Central Catholic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Sagemont (Weston, Fla.) join top teams from the Bluegrass State including nationally ranked George Rogers Clark (Winchester).

16-21 — City of Palms Classic (Fort Myers, Fla.)
Preseason Top 100 teams Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, N.Y.), Centennial, Columbus, Imhotep Charter, Lake Highlands, Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.), Newman, Newton, North Laurel, Paul VI, Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.), Vashon, Wheeler and Winter Haven headline the 16-team Tradition bracket. Link Academy, St. Frances Academy, The Rock (Gainesville, Fla.) and Patrick School (Hillside, N.J.) make up the four-team Signature Series field.

16-22 — Tarkanian Classic (Las Vegas, Nev.)
Field has yet to be announced.

17 — Ohio Play-By-Play Classic
Showdowns of Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron, Ohio) and Centerville against Pickerington Central are the top contests at the event.

17-20 — The Hardwood Invite (Seattle, Wash.)
First-year program Dynamic Prep (Dallas, Texas) and J. Eddison Academy (Canada) join top Washington and Oregon teams in the 16-team field.

17-21 — 'Iolani Classic (Honolulu, Hawaii)
Montverde Academy and Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia, Pa.) are among the top teams participating of the yet-to-be announced field.



17-21 — Capital City Classic (Salem, Ore.)
Out-of-state teams John Paul II (Corpus Christi, Texas), Modesto Christian and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) join the top teams from the Beaver State including West Linn.

21 — Wilmington Play-By-Play Classic

19-20 — River City Rumble (Paducah, Ky.)
Grind Session event.

26-29 — Hoophall East (Lewes, Del.)
A quality showcase field includes Archbishop Stepinac, Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.), Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.), Combine Academy, Long Island Lutheran, Moravian Prep, Paul VI and Westtown.

26-30 — The Classic at Damien
Over 100 teams are dispersed across seven divisions of 16 teams. Preseason Top 100 teams Curtis (University Place, Wash.), Harvard-Westlake, Notre Dame, Owyhee (Meridian, Idaho) and West Ranch (Valencia, Calif.) are all paired in the Platinum Division.

26-30 — Governors Challenge (Salisbury, Md.)
The largest holiday tournament in the country features 130 teams at the Wicomico Civic Center and surrounding high schools.



26-30 — Les Schwab Invitational (Hillsboro, Ore.)
Each of the four out-of-state programs is ranked in the preseason Top 100 as Bishop Gorman, Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.), Duncanville and Sierra Canyon join the top teams from the Beaver State.

27-29 — Jumpman Holiday Classic (Bronx, N.Y.)
Top five programs Imhotep Charter and Roselle Catholic are among the headliners in the to be announced field.

27-29 — Battle of the Villages (The Villages, Fla.)
9th annual event features an 8-team field that includes Berkmar (Lilburn, Ga.), Windermere Prep (Windermere, Fla.) and Whitmer (Toledo, Ohio).

27-29 — King Cotton Holiday Classic (Pine Bluff, Ark.)
The 16-team tournament style field has yet to be announced for the event that was founded in 1983.

27-29 — Whataburger Tournament (Fort Worth, Texas)
Del City (Okla.) joins top Lone Star State teams in the 65th annual event.

27-28, 30 — Pete and Jameer Nelson Play-By-Play Classic (Philadelphia, Pa.)
Top Keystone State programs are joined by out-of-state schools Rutgers Prep (Somerset, N.J.) and Salesianum (Wilmington, Del.).



27-30 — Beach Ball Classic (Myrtle Beach, S.C.)
Tournament is split into two separate eight-team fields as Top 100 programs Durango, George Rogers Clark, Roman Catholic and Tampa Catholic headline the Traditional Bracket and Accelerated Prep (Lakewood, Colo.), Central Pointe Christian Academy (Kissimmee, Fla.), PHH Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Skill Factory (Atlanta, Ga.) headline the Prep Bracket.

27-30 — Chick-fil-A Classic (Lexington, S.C.)
Calvary Christian Academy, Columbus, Greensboro Day, Hillcrest Prep, Huntington Prep (Huntington, W. Va.), IMG Academy, John Marshall, Oak Hill Academy, Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.), Southern California Academy (Castaic, Calif.) and The Rock join the Palmetto State's best.

27-30 — Kingdom of the Sun
Defending GHSA Class AAAAAA state champions Grovetown and reigning OHSA Division I state champions Pickerington Central headline the to be announced 16-team field.

27-30 — The Holiday Classic (San Diego, Calif.)
Nine states and the District of Columbia will be represented in the event that features 80 teams dispersed across five brackets.

27-31 — Arby's Classic (Bristol, Tenn.)
The 18-team field is headlined by Christ School, Madison-Ridgeland, Myers Park, Norcross (Ga.), North Mecklenburg (Huntersville, N.C.), Pace Academy and Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

28-30 — Hoop City Classic (Mitchell and Sioux Falls, S.D.)

January

4-7 — All State Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic (Westego, La.)
12th annual field is yet to be revealed.



5-6 — Iverson Classic Blackout Signature Series (Roselle, N.J.)
Top-ranked Roselle Catholic is joined by a solid field that includes Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), Minnesota Prep, Our Saviour Lutheran (Bronx, N.Y.) and Trenton Catholic Academy (Trenton, N.J.) among others.

5-7 — La Porte Invitational (La Porte, Ind.)
A matchup between Simeon and Cathedral accompanies 10 NIBC showdowns including Sunrise Christian Academy vs. IMG Academy and Montverde Academy against Sunrise Christian Academy.

6-7 — Chance Harman Classic (Floyd, Va.)
Blue Ridge, Combine Academy, Miller School and Winston Salem Christian are among teams competing in the 14-game event.

6-7 — Gotham City Showcase (New York, N.Y.)
Grind Session event.

7 — Highland Shootout (Highland, Ill.)
Imhotep Charter takes on Simeon, St. Rita faces Chaminade (St. Louis, Mo.) and Vashon battles Moline (Ill.) to highlight the 31st running of the shootout.

12-14 — Bass Pro Tournament of Champions (Springfield, Mo.)
Bartlett, Calvary Christian Academy, Christ the King, Sunrise Christian Academy, St. Rita join top Show-Me State teams Kickapoo (Springfield, Mo.), Link Academy and Staley (Kansas City, Mo.) in the 8-team tournament field.



13-16 — Flyin' to the Hoop Invitational (Dayton, Ohio)
AZ Compass Prep, Cathedral, Combine Academy, Huntington Prep, La Lumiere, Pace Academy, Southern California Academy are joined by Buckeye State contenders Centerville, Chaminade-Julienne (Dayton), Lutheran East (Cleveland Heights), Pickerington Central, St. Vincent-St. Mary and St. Ignatius (Cleveland).

13-16 — King Classic (Atlanta, Ga.)

12-16 — Spalding Hoophall Classic (Springfield, Mass.)
The premier showcase event in high school basketball features 22 teams from the Preseason Top 100 rankings and seven teams from the Preseason National Top 10. Centennial vs. Camden, Wheeler vs. Bishop Gorman, Roselle Catholic vs. Paul VI, Cardinal Hayes vs. Imhotep Charter, Sierra Canyon vs. Columbus, Montverde Academy vs. Sunrise Christian Academy and IMG Academy vs. AZ Compass Prep are among numerous highly-anticipated showdowns.

20-21 — Ascender Classic (Bradenton, Fla.)
IMG Academy plays host to the yet to be announced field.

20-21 — Crush in the Valley (San Pablo, Calif.)

20-21 — Quincy Shootout (Quincy, Ill.)
Link Academy faces Wasatch Academy, St. Rita battles Modesto Christian, St. Rita duels Greenforest, Link Academy takes on Oak Cliff Faith Family and Vashon goes up against Modesto Christian in headlining matchups.



20-21 — Wally Keller Classic (Charlotte, Fla.)
Preseason top 10 team Columbus headlines the 17th annual field that showcases 20 games over two days.

21 — Big City Showdown (Las Vegas, Nev.)
The top four teams in Nevada face off as Bishop Gorman battles Coronado and Liberty (Henderson) takes on Durango in a preview of the NIAA state tournament.

21 — Nike Elite Classic (Atlanta, Ga.)
A matchup between Wheeler and McEachern is expected to headline the yet to be announced field.

26-28 — Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (Montverde, Fla.)
Host Montverde Academy headlines the yet to be announced tournament field.

27-28 — Nike Extravaganza (Santa Ana, Calif.)
Mater Dei plays host to a 16-game showcase that includes Bishop Gorman, Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.), Centennial, Coronado, Harvard-Westlake, Liberty, Notre Dame St. Mary's (Phoenix, Ariz.) and West Ranch.

27-29 — Duel in the Desert (Glendale, Ariz.)
Grind Session event.



February

2-4 — Metro Classic Showcase (Union, N.J.)

2-4 — NIBC at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
A highly-anticipated conference showdown between IMG Academy and Sunrise Christian Academy headlines the NIBC event.
