Baseball Recap: Geneva Comes Up Short

St. Charles East hit Geneva with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings lost 11-2 to the Fighting Saints. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this game were averaging 3.53 runs allowed.

Geneva got a good showing from Matthew Martija, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martija has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mason Bruesch made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Abraham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Geneva's loss dropped their record down to 26-6. As for St. Charles East, their record is now 20-11.

While Geneva had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
