Baseball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland was the 6-0 winner over Centralia when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Orphans by a score of 5-4 on Thursday.

Highland got a good showing from Aden Durham, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That one earned run gave Durham a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Highland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Barber, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Easton Carey was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 11-22. As for Centralia, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season.

Highland will be playing at home against Mt. Vernon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Centralia, they will head out on the road to take on Effingham at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Flaming Hearts will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
