Preseason Alabama All-State high school football team

Armoni Goodwin, Dylan Brooks, Jeremiah Alexander lead players selected.

Bo Jackson, Julio Jones, Terrell Owens, Philip Rivers, DeMarcus Ware, and Marlon Humphrey are just some of the notable players to come from Alabama and some players selected on the preseason all-state team have the talent to join that list in the future.

Even with the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 high school football season it's never too early to see who the best players are in the state.

The defending 7A and 6A state champs, Thompson (Alabaster) and Oxford, lead the way with five selections each.



Hoover had the third most with four players selected followed by Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) and St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile) with three each.

American Christian Academy (Tuscaloosa), Blount (Eight Mile), Etowah (Attalla), McGill-Toolen (Mobile), Pinson Valley (Pinson), Pleasant Grove and Ramsay (Birmingham) all had two players featured.

Eight players overall on the all-state team were named to the Sophomore, Junior or All-American national team.

First Team Offense

QB — Trey Higgins, Oxford | 6-3 | 200 | Sr.
The standout baseball player is already committed to Mississippi State and he is also a big-time football player. He helped lead the Yellow Jackets to their first state title since 1993.

QB — Zyquez Perryman, Pleasant Grove | 6-1 | 180 | Sr.
The 2021 Charlotte commit accounted for nearly 4,000 yards of total offense and 45 touchdowns for the 5A state finalists.

Was on track for a monster junior campaign before suffering a season-ending injury. The 2021 Auburn commit had 52 carries for 485 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first three games.



One of the top running backs from the Class of 2022 was a first team selection on the preseason Junior All-American squad.

WR — Roc Taylor, Oxford | 6-2 | 210 | Sr.
The 2021 Tennessee commit hauled in 71 receptions for 1,300-plus yards and 17 touchdowns for the 6A state champs.

WR — Christian Lewis, Pleasant Grove | 6-3 | 190 | Sr.
Finished his junior campaign with 75 receptions for nearly 1,400 yards and 20 touchdowns.

TE — Jackson West, Lee (Huntsville) | 6-4 | 230 | Sr.
The 2021 Florida State commit checks as the top-rated tight end in Alabama and No. 18 in the country.

OL — Lucas Taylor, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile) | 6-3.5 | 315 | Jr.
Checks in as the No. 5 offensive guard in the Class of 2022.

OL — Riley Quick, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) | 6-5 | 250 | Jr.
Dominates in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Also a standout pitcher on the diamond.

OL — Rod Orr, Gadsden City (Gadsden) | 6-7 | 300 | Sr.
The top-rated offensive lineman in the state, according to 247Sports.

OL — Almarion Crim, Minor (Adamsville) | 6-3 | 285 | Sr.
The 3-star offensive tackle recently committed to Duke over 15 other FBS schools.

OL — Seaburn Hines, Helena | 6-2 | 295 | Sr.
Was selected on the 6A all-state first team as a junior.



His 1,716 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns were good for second most in state history in a single season and he also had 11 interceptions on defense.

K — Alex McPherson, Fort Payne | 5-9 | 150 | Jr.
The top-rated kicker by Kohl's for the Class of 2022 was selected to the 6A all-state first team as a sophomore.

First Team Defense

DL — Dylan Brooks, Handley (Roanoke) | 6-5 | 240 | Sr.
The 2021 Tennessee commit is the top-rated weakside defensive end on 247Sports composite rankings.

DL — Lee Hunter, Blount (Eight Mile) | 6-5 | 290 | Sr.
Finished his junior season with 77 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks and forced three fumbles.

DL — Justice Finkley, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) | 6-2 | 255 | Jr.
The second-rated weakside defensive end in the state had 86 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a sophomore.

DL — Khurtiss Perry, Park Crossing (Montgomery) | 6-2 | 250 | Jr.
Racked up over 100 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in 2019.



LB — Jeremiah Alexander, Thompson (Alabaster) | 6-2 | 235 | Jr.
The 2022 Alabama commit helped lead the Warriors to their first state title since 1982 and ended his sophomore season with 119 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, nine sacks and two interceptions.

LB — Jeremiah Williams, Ramsay (Birmingham) | 6-3 | 225 | Sr.
Checks in as a Top 100 player overall in the Class of 2021.

LB — Deontae Lawson, Mobile Christian (Mobile) | 6-3 | 220 | Sr.
The 2021 Alabama commit is the fourth-rated inside linebacker in the country and No. 2 player in Alabama.

DB — Ga'Quincy McKinstry, Pinson Valley (Pinson) | 5-11.5 | 175 | Sr.
One of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the nation and is also a big-time playmaker at wide receiver.

DB — Trequon Fegans, Oxford | 6-2 | 180 | Jr.
The top-rated defensive back in Alabama for the Class of 2022 made an impact on both sides of the ball for the 6A state champs.

Finished his junior season with four interceptions and 800 yards receiving to go with 15 touchdowns on offense.

DB — Edwin White, UMS-Wright Prep (Mobile) | 6-0 | 195 | Sr.
The 2021 Tennessee commit dominates in all three phases of the game.

AP — Kameron Grays, Blount (Eight Mile) | 6-1.5 | 195 | Sr.
The 3-star corner impacts both sides of the ball at a high level. He finished his junior season with over 1,100 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

P — Jaren Van Winkle, Clay-Chalkville (Pinson) | 6-2 | 170 | Sr.
Selected on the 6A all-state first team as a junior.



Second Team Offense

QB — Trent Battle, Daphne | 6-1 | 200 | Sr.
The 2021 TCU commit accounted for over 2,500 yards of total offense and 31 touchdowns in 2019.

QB — Will Crowder, Gardendale | 6-2.5 | 195 | Sr.
Checks in as the top-rated pro-style quarterback in the state and committed to West Virginia in April.

QB — Josh Lundy, Hoover | 6-3 | 190 | Sr.
Expect a breakout senior year for Lundy, who played well last season when he had to fill in for Robby Ashford.

RB Jaylin White, Dothan | 5-10.5 | 185 | Sr.
The second-rated running back in Alabama has landed nearly 20 Power 5 offers.

RB Joseph McKay, Central (Phenix City) | 6-0 | 215 | Sr.
Helped lead the Red Devils to the 7A state title game rushing for over 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.



RB Dylan Betts-Pauley, Hoover | 6-0 | 215 | Sr.
The recent Vanderbilt commit will be a key piece for the Buccaneers offense in 2020.

WR Jordan Mosley, McGill-Toolen (Mobile) | 6-0 | 190 | Sr.
The 3-star wide receiver is one of four 2021 Tennessee commits selected.

WR Sam Reynolds, Thompson (Alabaster) | 5-9 | 175 | Sr.
Impacts the game no matter where he lines up; will be a key player for the defending 7A state champs in 2020.

OL Rayvon Crum, Pinson Valley (Pinson) | 6-5 | 340 | Sr.
The 3-star offensive tackle joins his teammate McKinstry as players selected from the Indians.

OL Brandon Kirksey, Oxford | 6-5 | 330 | Sr.
One of five Oxford players featured and played a major role on the offensive line for the defending 6A state champs.

OL Edgar Amaya, Russellville | 6-3 | 300 | Sr.
The 2021 Kansas commit is the second-rated offensive guard in Alabama.



OL Ivan Shultz, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile) | 6-3 | 285 | Sr.
Moved from guard to center before his junior season and transitioned well. The recent Troy commit checks in as the No. 10 center in the Class of 2021.

OL Caleb Lyles, Fyffe | 6-3 | 310 | Sr.
Selected on the 2019 Super All-State Football Team by al.com after leading the Red Devils to their second consecutive 2A state title.

AP Trent Davis, Etowah (Attalla) | 5-11 | 170 | Sr.
Makes a huge impact in all three phases. Accounted for over 1,800 total yards and 19 touchdowns while posting 52 tackles and four interceptions on defense.

AP Jaylen Sulton, St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile) | 5-11 | 195 | Jr.
Helped lead Horn Lake (Miss.) to a 6A state championship as a freshman and will make an immediate impact for the Saints after transferring in May.

Second Team Defense

DL Peter Woods, Thompson (Alabaster) | 6-4 | 250 | So.
The talented sophomore has landed over 25 FBS offers and racked up 54 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks as a freshman.

DL Tim Keenan, Ramsay (Birmingham) | 6-1 | 340 | Sr.
The 4-star recruit checks in as the second-rated defensive tackle in the state.

DL Markus Clark, Hoover | 6-1 | 270 | Jr.
Expect the Buccaneers to have one of the top defenses in Alabama and Clark will be a key factor.

DL Jerry Bethea, Fairhope | 6-1 | 275 | Sr.
Named to the 7A all-state first team as a junior.



LB Marcus Williams, Hoover | 6-0 | 195 | Sr.
Williams joins Lundy, Betts-Pauley, and Clark as the four players selected from Hoover. 

LB Ian Jackson, Prattville | 6-1 | 210 | Sr.
The 2021 Alabama commit finished his junior season with 91 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and five sacks.

LB Robert Woodyard, Williamson (Mobile) | 6-1 | 210 | Jr.
The fourth Alabama commit to be selected on the all-state team.

LB Tavares Elston, Oxford | 6-0 | 210 | Jr.
Played a huge role on defense as a sophomore for the 6A state champs.

DB Gavin Shipman, Thompson (Alabaster) | 5-11 | 165 | Sr.
Finished his junior season with five interceptions and will be the leader in the secondary this year.

DB Tony Mitchell, Thompson (Alabaster) | 6-1 | 180 | So.
One of the top players overall from the Class of 2023 made a huge impact as a freshman last year for the 7A champs.

DB Jaden Mosley, McGill-Toolen (Mobile) | 6-0 | 180 | Sr.
Joins his brother Jordan on the all-state team and the 3-star safety has landed offers from Tennessee, Indiana, Texas A&M and a few other schools.

DB Martavious Davis, Etowah (Attalla) | 5-10 | 160 | Sr.
Makes an impact in all three phases of the game.

AP Cam Jeffery, American Christian Academy (Tuscaloosa) | 6-0 | 195 | Sr.
The 3-star athlete finished 2019 with 82 tackles, two interceptions and had over 500 yards receiving to go with five touchdowns.

AP Jaylen Hughey, Cullman | 6-2 | 230 | Sr.
The 2021 South Alabama commit rushed for nearly 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns while also making an impact on the other side of the ball.
