Baseball Recap: Hillsboro Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hillsboro can now relate to. They fell 8-5 to the Carlinville Cavaliers on Monday. The Hilltoppers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Sawyer Hindle and Eli Zaidi did some serious damage despite the final result: Hindle went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Zaidi went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Hillsboro is 2-1 when Hindle posts two or more runs, but 3-22 otherwise. Maddux McLaughlin was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Hillsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 5-23. As for Carlinville, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16.

Hillsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carlinville, they will challenge Roxana at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Shells' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
