High school football: Utah schools headline list of top 25 'new' dynasties

By Kevin Askeland Sep 3, 2024, 3:00pm

Corner Canyon, Skyridge are top two teams in the nation that began playing after 2013.

The MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings are packed with programs that have been around for well over 50 years, including Duncanville (Texas), Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Then there is Massillon (Ohio), which has fielded teams since the late 1800s.

However, new dynasties are on the rise. Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) has only been around a decade yet has found a place in the final MaxPreps Top 25 three times in the past five seasons. The Chargers began play in 2013, have twice posted 14-0 seasons and have a 117-27 overall record during that span with a 59.1 dynasty ranking per CalPreps.

Corner Canyon is No. 1 in our look at the top 25 newest football dynasties. Only schools that began varsity play in the past 10 years (since 2013 and excluding the 2021 COVID season due to some states canceling) are included. Schools are ordered by their CalPreps dynasty rating.

Utah has the top two schools with Skyridge (Lehi) coming in behind Corner Canyon. Texas had the most schools with 12. Utah was the second-fastest growing state in the nation over the past decade (Nevada was first) while Texas was the fourth-fastest.

Schools are listed with their record since they began varsity play, their dynasty rating, their first year of varsity play and their best record to date.
