Softball Recap: Gretna Beats Pius X for Their Sixth Straight Win

Gretna had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They beat the Pius X Thunderbolts by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-4. The Dragons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Thunderbolts, too.

Gretna got a great performance from Taelyn Rupiper as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. Rupiper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Kurrus was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Marshall, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Gretna's record is now 23-6. As for Pius X, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-15.

Gretna has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Columbus on the 8th. As for Pius X, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-0 defeat against Millard North on the 4th.
