Basketball Recap: Southwest EC Starts off Right with Win over Mountain Empire

Southwest EC took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 53-6 win over the Mountain Empire Redhawks. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Eagles had established a 37-point advantage.

Southwest EC's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ivanna Cota led the charge by putting up 23 points. Another player making a difference was Marlene Melero, who posted 15 points.

Despite the loss, Mountain Empire still got an impressive performance from Bibi Caceres, who had five points.

Mountain Empire's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Southwest EC and Mountain Empire will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Eagles see the court they'll take on Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on December 1. As for Mountain Empire, their break will end when they face Calexico Mission at 4:00 p.m. on December 1.
