Baseball Recap: Kalamazoo Central Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Kalamazoo Central waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Dowagiac Chieftains. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-0 on Thursday.

Adriann Vanderluenn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kalamazoo Central is 9-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 10-12 otherwise. Vanderluenn was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 13 games.

In other pitching news, Zachary Geer tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Dolislager, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Eliot Goerge, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Kalamazoo Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Kalamazoo Central's record is now 19-13. As for Dowagiac, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-25 record this season.

Kalamazoo Central will host Paw Paw at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroon Giants' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redskins have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Dowagiac, they are taking a road trip to face off against Lakeshore at 10:00 a.m. on the 30th.
