Softball Recap: Union's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

The Union Wildcats earned a 7-4 victory over the Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights on Monday.

Evie Poggas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Wallis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Millie Koenigsfeld, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Union's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-6. As for Incarnate Word Academy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-10.

Coming up, Union will take on Warrenton at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they will challenge Westminster Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
