Papillion-LaVista is a perfect 8-0 against Omaha Central since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Monarchs will square off against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Papillion-LaVista will be strutting in after a win while Omaha Central will be coming in after a loss.
Papillion-LaVista came out on top against Norfolk on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Monarchs blew past the Panthers 12-2. Considering the Monarchs have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Papillion-LaVista got a massive performance out of Reese Haberer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Haberer has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maizey Carpenter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Papillion-LaVista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Norfolk only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Omaha Central's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bellevue East. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Omaha Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ada Jantzen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Papillion-LaVista and bumps their season record up to 21-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Omaha Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Papillion-LaVista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Omaha Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Papillion-LaVista's way against Omaha Central when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as Papillion-LaVista made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
