Baseball Recap: Central Extends Winning Streak to Three

Central entered their tilt with Jacobs on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 5-3. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 6-4 victory two weeks ago.

Daniel Koertgen looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Maglares, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Dominic Henderson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Central's record is now 15-17-2. As for Jacobs, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 19-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will venture away from home to challenge Nazareth Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Roadrunners' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Jacobs, they will face off against St. Charles North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
