Softball Recap: Discovery Canyon Comes Up Short

Discovery Canyon had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 7-16 to make it five. They fell just short of the Pueblo Central Wildcats by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunder of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Discovery Canyon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Holcomb, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Izzie Ackerman, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Pueblo Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Pueblo Central's side, Norah Montes was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Montes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Perez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pueblo Central beat Discovery Canyon by a score of 11-8 on Saturday.
