Softball Recap: Sherwood's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Sherwood had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Harrisonville Wildcats on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Marksmen have posted since October 16, 2024.

Kalli Gariepy made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Gariepy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ashlynn Degraffenreid and Lainey Powell did most of the damage at the plate: Degraffenreid went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Powell went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Degraffenreid a new career-high. Taylor Walker also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Sherwood picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-14. As for Harrisonville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Sherwood will venture away from home to challenge Wheatland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harrisonville, they will face off against Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
