Softball Recap: Seward Takes a Loss

It was a Battle of the Birds when Seward duked it out with Milford on Thursday. The Bluejays fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3. The Bluejays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Katie Schegg was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Karlee Baack was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Frihauf, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Seward has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Milford, their record is now 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seward will face off against Lakeview at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Milford, they will head out to face off against Crete at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
