Football Game Preview: Gateway Christian Warriors vs. Melrose Buffaloes

The Gateway Christian Warriors are taking a road trip to square off against the Melrose Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Gateway Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Mescalero Apache, who was ranked 21st at the time (Gateway Christian was ranked 12th). The Warriors simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Chiefs 68-16. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 44 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Melrose waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They strolled past the SonBlazers with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. 28 seems to be a good number for the Buffaloes as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Melrose's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Gateway Christian, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Gateway Christian was dealt a bruising 58-6 defeat at the hands of Melrose in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Warriors, Josiah Roybal (who rushed for 48 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time.
