Softball Recap: Columbus Drops Highest Score of Season Against Jordan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbus). They put the hurt on the Jordan Red Jackets with a sharp 19-0 win on Wednesday. Considering the Blue Devils have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Balauitan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Lexi Winchester was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aubrie McBride, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Columbus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in October of 2024.

The victory (which was Columbus' fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Jordan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Columbus will face off against rival Shaw at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Jordan is set to take on their familiar foe Hardaway at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
