Basketball Recap: Browne's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Browne can bid farewell to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They secured a 36-31 W over the Maryvale Panthers. That's more bragging rights for the Bruins, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Browne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zeiynap Al-Hemedat out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Al-Hemedat has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Miranda Inzunza, who posted six points in addition to 12 boards and five steals.

Browne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Maryvale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Leslie Gibbons went 8 for 19 on her way to 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Maryvale's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Rose Bailon also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Browne's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-14. As for Maryvale, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Browne has already played their next matchup, a 38-25 win against Camelback on the 4th. As for Maryvale, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 98-9 loss against Cesar Chavez on the 4th.
