Basketball Recap: Levada Gorsuch Key Part of a Team Effort in Blue Pirates Win

Williamsburg won the last time they faced Juniata Valley and things went their way on Monday too. The Williamsburg Blue Pirates managed a 49-43 victory over the Juniata Valley Hornets. Given the Blue Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Hornets are ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Williamsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Levada Gorsuch, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Gorsuch's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Anastasia Ranalli was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Despite the defeat, Juniata Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubrey Anderson went 6 for 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Watson, who posted six points and five boards.

Williamsburg's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. As for Juniata Valley, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 11-8 record.

When Williamsburg and Juniata Valley next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Williamsburg will challenge Southern Huntingdon County and their six-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Williamsburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Juniata Valley will try to stop Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy's nine-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
