Marion Local (Maria Stein, Ohio) begins the season as high school football's active win streak leader with 48 in a row. With 10 more wins, the Flyers can set the state record for all-time consecutive victories, topping the run of 57 by
St. John's (Delphos) between 1996 and 2001.
The western Ohio school sits in a tie for fifth place in state history with
McKinley (Niles, Ohio).
Jefferson Township (Dayton, Ohio) won 49 in a row from 1970-75,
Versailles rattled off 54 in a row from 1993-97 and
Kirtland is No. 2 on the list with 55 in a row from 2018-21.
Marion Local is one of three schools that could hold the consecutive wins record in its state by the end of the season. The others are
Bennington (Neb.) and
Sheridan (Wyo.).
Bennington enters the 2024 season with 39 wins in a row. That puts the Badgers just nine wins away from tying
Cambridge, which won 48 in a row from 1996-99.
Sheridan, meanwhile, has won 31 in a row and needs just three wins to tie
Laramie, which won 34 in a row from 1959-63.
