They were just one part of a punishing run game: Maize was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Meanwhile, Valley Center played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Derby, falling 48-19. Maize will need to focus on slowing down Ray J Logan, one of several Valley Center players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 144 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Thatcher, who threw for 310 yards and three TDs.
Maize's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Valley Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Maize has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 209.5 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Valley Center, though, as they've been averaging only 94.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Maize against Valley Center in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 37-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
