Nation's top basketball prospect James Wiseman commits to Memphis

Memphis East star gives Penny Hardaway his third commitment in the 2019 class.

Regarded as high school basketball's top overall prospect by 247Sports, James Wiseman of Memphis East (Memphis, Tenn.) announced Tuesday on ESPN that he would be staying in-state and attend the University of Memphis.

The 6-foot-11, 210-pound center decided to reunite with his former high school basketball coach, Penny Hardaway, as the Tigers continue to set fire to the recruiting trail.

Wiseman earned MaxPreps Junior All-American third team honors after leading Memphis East to its third consecutive state title in 2017-18, averaging 18.5 points, 8.2 rebound and 2.8 blocks per contest.

Memphis won yet another hotly contested recruiting battle with Kentucky, with Hardaway making his mark in recruiting during his first season at his alma mater.

Wiseman joins AAU teammate D.J. Jeffries of Olive Branch (Miss.) and his high school teammate Malcolm Dandridge in the makings of a dominant 2019 recruiting class.
