Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Tackett Curtis of
Many is the 2022 MaxPreps Louisiana High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound senior running back/linebacker helped the Lions go 15-0 and capture the Division III Non-Select state championship.
Offensively, Curtis ran for 1,115 yards and 11 touchdowns, including two in the state championship game. Defensively, he was one of
five finalists for the Butkus Award, which honors the
nation’s top high school linebacker. He recorded 112 tackles, 16
tackles for loss, six sacks and three interceptions for the Tigers.
In the state championship game, Curtis rushed for two touchdowns — including an 80-yard score — and helped contain Union Parish’s elite running game on his way to winning MVP.
In Many’s first game of the season, Curtis returned three punts for touchdowns.
Regarded as a four-star linebacker by 247Sports, Curtis committed to USC over offers from 45 other schools including Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
