The San Marcos Knights will take on the Point Loma Pointers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games San Marcos has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
San Marcos heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They fell just short of Eastlake by a score of 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Oliver Vanderpool was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Maddox Ponsford, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Point Loma, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Granite Hills on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pointers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Ace Selchow was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Point Loma got a massive performance out of Jaxon Seiler, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Seiler a new career-high. Wyatt Olson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
San Marcos' defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-11. As for Point Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 18-10-1.
San Marcos came up short against Point Loma when the teams last played back in May of 2023, falling 4-0. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
