The Minarets Mustangs will square off against the Shafter Generals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Minarets comes in on seven and Shafter on three.
Minarets is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Chavez 14-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Jamie Spurgeon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Torin Wolf was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Beckham Mathewson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.
Minarets kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Shafter beat Sierra 6-2 on Thursday.
Like Minarets, Shafter also got a great game from a two-way player: Andy Gomez. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gomez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Munoz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Joaquin Garza was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Minarets' victory bumped their record up to 23-8-1. As for Shafter, their win bumped their record up to 19-6.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Minarets hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Shafter struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
